Musings about travel search, the Internet, vertical search, and philosophy. And maybe taxidermy.

Paris Hilton to Star as Mother Teresa

It's true.  An Indian director wants to cast Paris Hilton as Mother Teresa in a fim he is planning.  My favorite line from the article:

Hilton's prior movie experience includes appearing in a home-made sex video made by a former boyfriend that appeared on the Internet, and parts in several Hollywood B-films.

Schizophonia

This is from a friend.  I think they used to call these Sniglets like "cheedle"

You know how sometimes you'll be walking down the street and someone walking toward you seems to be talking to themselves and you think they're crazy for a moment but then you realize they're talking on their hands-free cellphone? I think there should be a name for that. But what should it be?

It's called Schizophonia!

I'll begin posting more frequently again next week.  With the company launch, the move, and the housewarming, I'm maxxed out!

A new (concatenated) slogan?

I saw a cab with an LED sign on it that played two slogans in progression:

"When you're ready to find the right match" (eHarmony)

"Think beyond the bun" (TacoBell)

The best advice I've heard all weekend.

You know when you're in Silicon Valley when. . .

. . . you're in the bathroom and you can hear the guy in the stall next to you tapping on his Crackberry.

GookBox: Stream Audio from GMail

Yup.  I'm not kidding about the name of this company.  Good idea, terrible name. It's not the name of an Asian porn site, but a little app that you can download to stream audio from your GMail account.  Since GMail gives you a ton of free storage, this seems like a good way to store a part of your mp3 collection.  The company--whose name I try not to mention out loud--claims that they're not in conflict with GMail's TOS.  But, you can imagine GookBox allowing you to store and retrieve a variety of files in your GMail account and I can't imagine this being cost-effective for Google.  Who knows, though.  Memory is getting cheaper 'n' cheaper.

In any case, GookBox admits they made a poor choice of name on their blog, claiming:

GookBox would like to clarify the intention behind its christening here. GookBox is meant to be read as Person's Box, and gook was meant to refer to a person and not a person of any particular origin. It has been very disheartening to know that a lot of you took offense to this name.

A simple wikipedia search would have prevented this act of cultural ignorance.  Sure, it sounds like "jukebox" but um um.  What can ya say?
